- How much does it cost to rent a bike in Strasbourg?
- At VeloRouge a classic city bike is €18 for 8 hours and an electric bike €29 for 8 hours or €39 for 24 hours. Longer formulas bring the daily price down: €75 for 2 days, €89 for 3 days, €145 for a week. The cargo bike is €59 for 4 hours. All prices include VAT, with no equipment surcharge.
- Where do I pick the bike up, and when are you open?
- At 4 Rue du Faubourg-de-Saverne, 67000 Strasbourg, between the main station and the Grande Île — about five minutes on foot from the station. We are open Monday to Friday 09:30–18:30 and Saturday and Sunday 10:00–19:00. You choose your own pick-up time when you book; there is no fixed departure slot.
- Do I need to book in advance?
- Not strictly, but it is safer: the fleet is small and summer weekends go quickly. Booking online takes two minutes, is paid by card, and holds the bike for the hour you picked. Without a booking, come by during opening hours and we will give you whatever is still free.
- Can I cancel or change my booking?
- Yes. Cancellation is free up to 24 hours before your pick-up time and you are refunded in full. To move a date or switch formula, email bonjour@velorouge.fr or call +33 6 30 77 09 94 and we will reschedule it for you.
- Is a deposit or ID required?
- Valid ID is required at pick-up, for every rider. Deposit terms and liability for damage are set out in our rental conditions, which you accept when booking — read them before you confirm if anything is unclear.
- Electric or classic — which should I choose?
- For the old town, Petite France and an easy day out, the €18 classic bike is plenty: Strasbourg is flat. Choose electric for a longer ride — the Bruche canal, the wine route, the Rhine and Germany — or when your group rides at different speeds, since the assistance evens everyone out.
- What is included in the price?
- The bike, a helmet, a lock and our route map. From the full-day formula upwards, a charger comes with the e-bike. Nothing is added at the counter: the price shown is the price you pay.
- How far can I ride from Strasbourg?
- Further than most people expect, because the terrain is flat and the cycle paths are continuous. Half a day: Petite France, the Orangerie, the European quarter. A full day: the Bruche canal towards Molsheim, or across the Rhine to Kehl in Germany over the Passerelle des Deux Rives. Several days: EuroVelo 15 along the Rhine, or the Alsace wine route.
- Can I ride into Germany?
- Yes — it is one of our guests' favourite outings. Kehl is about twenty minutes away over the Passerelle des Deux Rives, car-free and with no formalities. Just tell us if you are heading into the Black Forest for several days so we can set you up properly.
- Can children ride with us?
- Our fleet is made up of adult bikes. If you are travelling as a family, call +33 6 30 77 09 94 or write to us before booking: we will tell you honestly what we can offer for your group rather than let you book a bike that will not fit.
- Where can I park the bike in the city centre?
- Strasbourg has bike racks almost everywhere, notably around Place Kléber, the cathedral and the station. Always use the lock we give you, secure the frame — not just the wheel — to a fixed point, and pick busy spots. For a long stop, the secure bike parks at the station are the best option.
- What if it rains, or the bike breaks down?
- For anything mechanical, call +33 6 30 77 09 94: we come out or swap the bike. As for rain, Alsatian weather turns quickly and showers rarely last; if it is forecast all day, cancel free of charge up to 24 hours before and come back another day.
- Can I take the bike on the tram or the train?
- Those are the transport operators' rules, not ours, and they change by line and by time of day: check the CTS conditions for the tram and the TER conditions for regional trains before you set off. In practice, central Strasbourg is compact enough to ride end to end.
